Create at the Ex, an open, juried art show is back at The Ex! We want to see your creativity!

Entry deadline: May 24, 2024 at 4:00 pm

Artwork drop off: Wednesday, June 5 from 3 – 7 pm OR Thursday, June 6 from 10 am – 2 pm

Artwork displayed: June 14-23, 2024. Only selected artwork will be on display at The Ex. All entrants will be notified whether or not their artwork has been selected.

Artwork pick-up for non-selected works: Wednesday, June 12 from 3 -7 pm

Artwork pick-up for selected works: Monday, June 24 from 3 – 7 pm

All unclaimed artwork will be charged a $10/day/piece handling fee. If someone other than the artist is to pick up the artwork, please provide them with the receipt or a signed letter of permission.

Painting: Watercolour, oil, acrylic or mixed media, generally presented in a frame and ready for hanging.

Drawing: Pencil, coloured pencil, pastel, pen and ink, charcoal, etc., generally matted and framed and ready for hanging.

Mixed Media: Artist prints (no giclees), textiles, cartoons, scratchboard, air brush, digital images (other than digital photographs), collage or combinations of more than three media.

Sculpture: Stone, wood, ceramic, etc. (See rule 6 for size and weight restrictions)

Teen: For artists 13 to 19 years (works may be submitted for judging unframed, but if selected must be framed for display). A teen artist may enter the above categories as well, but each entry requires the submission of different pieces.

Best in Show: Presented to one overall winner

First, second and third place will be awarded in each category.

  1. Artists who are residents of Manitoba (residing for a minimum of 6 months) may submit up to four (4) works. The juror will select the works to be hung and their decision is final.
  2. An entry fee of $5 per piece payable to Red River Exhibition Association is required prior to or upon delivery of the work for consideration by the juror.
  3. All works must be original, unaided work of the artist. Copies will not be considered.
  4. Accepted artworks must have been completed in the last two years and no repeat artworks will be accepted.
  5. You will be notified by email if your art has been accepted.
  6. Two dimensional works must be labelled, suitably framed or presented with wire and ready for hanging. Framing systems with only glass, a backing and clips are not acceptable. Charcoal, pastel, watercolour or pencil works must be protected under glass or plexi. All work is to be no larger than 32″ x 40″ when framed.
  7. Sculpture and mixed media works are restricted to a 36″ cube and may weigh no more than 40 lbs. If special display is required, the artist must provide this.
  8. A label with the artist’s name, address and phone number, artwork title and price must be firmly attached to the back or bottom of each art piece. See label forms provided in downloadable entry form.
  9. No WET artworks will be accepted.
  10. The Red River Exhibition will retain a 20% fee from the sale of artworks; artists are advised to price their work accordingly. (Upwards of 200,000 people may view the works over the course of the show.) Works must be marked NFS if they are NOT offered for purchase.
  11. Submission of entries implies acceptance of all rules of the competition. All entries must be accompanied by fully completed signed entry forms and applicable fees.
  12. The Exhibition assumes no responsibility for loss, damage or injury of any kind, however caused to any
    exhibit or exhibitor.
  13. Prize winning entrants, and/or guardians of entrants, consent to the use of each participant’s name and photo in any public recognition. The exhibition reserves the right to reproduce any entries for publicity related to the contest unless otherwise stated.

2024 Juror

Clyde D. Finlay

Clyde’s artistic journey started in 1993 at the University of Manitoba at the Faculty of Fine Arts, while working for the Justice Department. While working and going to university he became active in the art community in Winnipeg. He was able to continue creating art, taking art workshops to learn different skills in painting and drawing.

After graduating with his Thesis at the University in 2007 – 08, Clyde became involved with Outworks Gallery as a member and a gallery manager. He has been teaching and presenting art classes to various art institutions in Winnipeg and Manitoba with groups and individuals for over 30 years.

In 2007-08, Clyde applied to be in a Group exhibit and was allowed to exhibit his art in New York. He has been able to exhibit his art in Canada, the United States, and Europe.

Clyde is looking forward to being a Juror for this year’s Juried Art Show at the 2024 Red River Ex.
